Essie Hall is concerned about the entire 9th Ward. Improving the quality of life for all residents is what matters most. As an educator and counselor, Essie believes our communities deserve a leader who will put the people first. Having lived in the 9th Ward over 45 years, Essie recalls its rich legacy and seeks to claim a brighter future. Essie will:
Work to Bring Businesses Back
The 9th Ward is a food desert! This reality needs immediate attention. Hall will bring fresh grocers back to the ward. She will support small businesses, renovate community corridors and develop cultural centers. This would be accomplished through collaborative partnerships, identified tax incentives and grant funding.
Fight for Strong Schools
Our children need tools to realize their academic potential. Essie Hall will support their academic success and call on higher ed institutions (within the ward) to partner with community schools. Under Hall's leadership all stakeholders including: community residents, churches, businesses and service organizations will work collaboratively to enhance academic gains and position our learners for career advancement.
Advocate for Safer Neighborhoods
Criminal activity such as theft and murder have increased in the 9th Ward. Essie Hall will make community safety a priority. Hall will ensure public streets and walkways are well lit, maintained and protected through community policing, extended partnerships with community organizations (businesses, churches and block clubs), and through the implementation of restorative strategies. Relationship building would be key in returning the 9th Ward back to the people.
